Census data for a certain county show that 19% of the adult residents are Hispanic. Suppose 74 people are called for jury duty and only 10 of them are Hispanic. Does this apparent underrepresentation of Hispanics call into question the fairness of the jury selection system? Explain.

Answer:

Yes. The jury pool are, in the US constitution, demanded to be fair and have a representative amount of people from that county. That happens because people from different background have different views on cases. If, for example, the State is acusing a black person in a non-fair way, only because of the color of their skin, jury formed by black majority is more likely to see the Racism of the State in this case and judge in a place where they are not interested in arresting that person only because she/he is black, specially when that person comes from a racial segregate community that is usually already judged in a racist way.
