A lot of different protests were going on in the 1960's, most to do with sexism (women getting the same treatment was men), and racism. Advocacy groups did nonviolent ways of getting out the word, like marches, boycotts, and sit-ins. Even though sometimes this had a violent and negative outcome, it was a nonviolent resistance that effectively got its point across and got to where we are today.
