An outlier is a piece of data that is abnormal (different) from the rest of the data by a signifcant amount.  Like a random sample of population most cities may have 3000 people but, you may have that one poorer city that only has 500. That would make your poor city your outlier.

Scientists usually use one of three methods to deal wth an outlier:

1.) Univariate Method

2.) Multivariate Method

3.) Minkowski Error
