Who was Ashoka?

Ashoka was an Indian sovereign of the Maurya Dynasty, he was the son of Bindu Sara. He promoted the spread of Buddhism across ancient Asia.

After the war of Kalinga, He got upset with the bloodshed or murder and vowed to never fight again. He supported Buddhism during his reign.

Ashoka's writings reference that he suppressed the Kalinga region during his 8th regnal year. The termination caused during the war made him repent of violence.
