Technically the slope of a position vs time graph should be its velocity but I'm inclined to believe the supposed answer to this question is "true". Speed is just velocity without the direction.
The slope of the line on a position-time graph is equal to the velocity of the object, this is speed (magnitude) with the direction. For example, if the slope is -5 m/s this means that the velocity is also - 5m/s
