What is operant conditioning?
Operant conditioning works on the fundamental premise that a stimulus (antecedent) causes an action, which causes a consequence. Reinforcers, positive and negative, primary, secondary, and generalised, are all used in this type of conditioning.
The three basic reinforcers are food, shelter, and water.
Stimuli that get conditioned as a result of their association with a primary reinforcer are known as secondary reinforcers.
When a secondary reinforcer is paired with multiple primary reinforcers, generalised reinforcers result. For instance, earning money can boost a person's capacity to purchase a range of goods (TVs, cars, a house, etc.)
The operant is the behaviour. The likelihood that a behaviour will recur in the future is determined by the interaction between the discriminative stimulus, response, and reinforcer. a reinforcer is a reward or, in the event of negative results, a punishment.
