so, no. of test he passed=x-8

again,

he had passed 60% of total test,

i.e. 60% of x=x-8

or, 60/100 × x=x-8

or, 0.6× x=x-8

or, 0.4x=8

or, x=20

therefore, Terry had passed 20-8=12 tests.
