Well it depends on what history of the literature you are looking at. For instance, American literature are history is based off of colonization, slavery, discrimination, etc. Because of that it created “standards” and “stereotypes”, so in literature back then there was no LGBTQ+ books, or mixed relationships, or where a woman goes through hardships and survives it on her own because in our history that never existed. So gradually there was rebellions, marches, protest, which helped with those topics. Not to mention there was an “ideal” character and plot line, typically an intelligent wealthy white man who’s doing something heroic usually saving a “damsel in distressed”. There was just an ideal of a story with the same characters and plot line all because we were taught that those were the “normal” expectations.
