The Sudan government sponsored the killing of non-Arabs in Darfur.
Civil war began in the Darfur region in 2003, between the black African farming population and the nomadic Arab population. The Sudanese government gave its support to the Janjaweed, an Arab militia movement, that destroyed hundreds of villages and farms and murdered thousands of people. The International Criminal Court (as well as a number of nations themselves) have declared these actions in Darfur as genocide.
According to the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust, which gives attention not only to the Holocaust but to other instances of genocide, the ethnic cleansing campaign in Darfur has been responsible for the deaths of over 200,000 civilians, and over 2 million people have been displaced due to the violence.
