A fundamental human right is a right which all humans have been given and which no man can take away. The Declaration of Independence lists three of them: "Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness". This means that every human being has the right to live in any situation. They also have the right to personal liberty, or being able to do what they want (within reason) without government intervention. Finally, humans have a right to be happy and to go after things that make them happy.
These are fundamental human rights. Some people call these "God-given rights", with the reasoning that if God has given these rights to man, then no other can take those rights away.
Hope that helped! =)
