The equivalent expression for the given expression

2(3y+6)-3(-4-y) is 9y+24.

What is the equivalent expression?

Equivalent expressions are expressions that work the same even though they look different. If two algebraic expressions are equivalent, then the two expressions have the same value when we plug in the same value for the variable.

What is distributive law?

Distributive law is a law relating the operations of multiplication and addition, stated symbolically as a(b + c) = ab + ac; that is, the monomial factor a is distributed, or separately applied, to each term of the binomial factor b + c, resulting in the product ab + ac.

According to the given question.

We have an expression

[tex]2(3y+6) -3(-4-y)[/tex]

So, the equivalent expression for the above expression is given by

[tex]2(3y+6)-3(-4-y)\\= [2\times(3y)]+[2\times(6)] +[- 3\times(-4)]+[-3\times(-y)]\\=6y+12+12+3y\\=9y+24[/tex]

Hence, the equivalent expression for the given expression

2(3y+6)-3(-4-y) is 9y+24.
