George Orwell's work Nineteen Eighty-Four was published in 1948. The novel depicts how Orwell imagined the world may have looked in 1984. It depicts a scary society in which governments control and monitor everyone's life.
Winston Smith is the primary character. He lives in a country dominated by a powerful "Party" and its leader Big Brother, and he aspires to change that. He falls in love with Julia, who agrees with him, and is inspired to revolt against the government.
