Sound navigation and ranging. Today's technology lets scientists to study the ocean in a quicker and precise way. There are three tools used to map the ocean floor, sonar, satellites, and submersibles. Sonar is a type of electronic depth-sounding equiptment made in the 1920's.It is an acronym for sound navigation and ranging.

What is Echo Sounding ?
This method was developed by German Scientist , In this different frequency of sound is used to determine different objects below the sea surface.
The ships having transducers which emit and receive sound waves in form of cone are used .
After projection of sound , depending upon the depth of the ocean the projection will be created on the ocean floor , which will echo back to the transducers after amplification to record and manipulate the data.
The depths are calculated as the time sound takes to reach through the ocean and back.
Therefore , Echo Sounding is the technology used to map the ocean floor.
