The Soviet Union and the US agreed to divide Korea at this drawn line, more commonly known as the 38th parallel.
Korea was divided at the 38th Parallel to ensure the integrity of a Democratic South Korea and a Communist North Korea. This division was decided upon by the U.N. brokered deal with the two countries.
