Why planets orbit their sun in the universe?

If you were to have looked this up it's fairly an easy law made and created by Newton were he states: "The Sun's gravity pulls on Earth and the other planets within it's gravitational field". He is stating that due to the laws of gravity affecting motion it keeps it in a locked rotation which is usually orbital.
