Eisrnhower was president of the USA during two periods. The first one from 1953 to 1957 and the second one from 1957 to 1961. He created the Department of Health, Education and Welfare extending benefits to 10000 workers. He continued all the major New Deal programs still in operation especially Social Security. His period coincided with an economic expansion. He signed the bill that authorized the Interstate Highway System in 1956.
