Democracy is a term to refer to a system of government that is characterized by giving power to the people. Democracy has two types:
- Participatory democracy.
- Representative democracy.
Participatory democracy was a system of government exercised in ancient Greece in which all citizens actively participated in government decisions. This mechanism is facilitated by the low number of people.
Currently, there are states with democratic government systems (such as the United States), however, they are indirect or representative, this means that citizens choose a group of representatives to govern according to their ideals in different aspects social, economic, political, cultural, among others.
According to the above, if the student is doing her paper on the similarities and differences between the democratic government system of ancient Greece and the United States during modern times, her work is focusing on the creation, expansion, and interaction of political systems.
