Why is the surface of mercury covered with meteor impact craters, while earth's surface has relatively few creaters?

Well, for one, Mercury has, like the moon, almost no winds. The wind on the earth has very likely eroded most prehistoric meteorite craters. Also, Mercury has no flora or big bodies of water to hide possible craters.
