Cell cycle is actually a cell division and it consists of few phases:

Interphase that can be subdivided into G₁ (Gap1), S, and G₂ (Gap2) phases. This phase is characterized by the cell growth and preparation (G1) for the mitosis. The most important step of this phase is DNA replication which occurs in S subphase. G2 is the phase where the proteins and organelles are made.

Mitotic phase (M phase) includes mitosis (division of copied DNA) and cytokinesis (division of cytoplasm). Mitosis has four stages: prophase, metaphase, anaphase and telophase.

G₀ phase is the resting phase of the cell cycle.
