We have two types of hypotheses: Null hypothesis and Alternative hypothesis. They both are mutually exclusive to each other.

Then we define the level of significance, it can be any value between 0 to 1. Generally, we use 5% level of significance.

Then we test our statistic using different tests like z-score, t statistic, chi-square, etc.

If this computed value is less than the tabulated value, then we reject the null hypothesis and vice-versa.

These are the steps used to test a hypothesis.
