The Kansas-Nebraska Act allowed the territories of Kansas and Nebraska to decide the issue of slavery by popular sovereignty. The people who lived in these territories would be able to vote on whether slavery would be allowed there. This had the following effect on Kansas:
D. Pro-slavery settlers fought against anti-slavery settlers.
This led to what was known as the “Bleeding Kansas” events wherein bloody battles, raids, assaults, and murders took place between those who were pro-slavery and those who were opposed to slavery.
