The Spanish-American War represented the change of American foreign policy from isolationism to expansionist tendencies. America was now willing to take part in global affairs. USA was hungry for more land and America realized the importance of domination in world affairs so it was now in favor of using military force.
It essentially was higher involvement within American foreign policy. America became more involved in foreign affairs, and began using more force especially in the military. It also began global expansion.
