The Constitution assigns president formal powers such as to sign or veto legislation, command the armed forces, convene or adjourn congress, receive ambassadors, grant reprieves and pardons among others.
Along with the formal powers given by the Constitution, the President also has various informal powers including the ability to enact a legislative agenda, executive orders, sending out troops without a declaration of war, and conducting foreign policy initiatives etc.
The formal and informal powers of the president may be used by the president to convince Congress to pass an economic stimulus bill
