In guinea pigs, black fur (B) is dominant over white fur (b). Cross a heterozygous (hybrid) black guinea pig with a homozygous (purebred) white guinea pig. Complete a Punnett square, identify the genotype(s), phenotype(s), and probability (% and fraction) that the offspring will be black and white?

Respuesta :

The heterozygous (hybrid) black guinea pig = Bb

Homozygous (purebred) white guinea pig = bb

When these two are crossed the resulting genotypes are

Bb x bb

= Bb, Bb, bb, bb

Bb = black & white phenotype

bb= white phenotype

So, the cross will result into

2 black and white phenotype out of four thus the probability = 2/4 = 50 %

The genotypes of the guinea pigs are Bb, bb , the phenotype of the guinea pigs are black fur and white fur and

the probability of the guinea pig with black fur is 50% and white fur guinea pigs 50%.

A Cross between the white fur and black fur guinea pigs

Bb is Black fur

bb is white fur

Bb × bb

      I

Bb Bb bb bb

  • The Genotypes are Bb and bb

  • The phenotypes are black fur and white fur guinea pigs

2Bb - two Black fur guinea pigs

2bb - two white fur guinea pigs

  • The probability and fraction of offspring is 50% black fur and 50% White fur

since we have 2 black fur and 2 white fur

and the total offspring = 4

Black fur = 2/4 × 100%

=50%

White fur = 2/4 × 100%

=50%

Therefore, the genotypes of the guinea pigs are Bb, bb, the phenotype of the guinea pigs are black fur and white fur and the probability of the guinea pig with black fur is 50% and white fur is 50%.
