Who founded the church of Christ of Latter-day Saints?
This church was founded by the American Joseph Smith on April 6, 1830, in western New York.
What did others call the followers of this religion?
This doctrine is also called as Mormon Church or SUD Church, however, these names are not authorized by the aid organization until such time as it recommends not using them. It should be noted that the members of this religion are usually called Mormons; preferred to call themselves "saints of the last days"
Why did this new leader decide to lead his people west?
I will begin by saying that in 1831 Smith and his initial followers moved to Kirtland, Ohio, settling in Jackson County, Missouri, with the idea of building their headquarters there. His thought was impeded when in 1833 the settlers of Missouri violently exiled them, tried to retake the lands but failed to do so. Notwithstanding the foregoing, the Church achieved expansion in Kirtland, but again they had to flee in 1838, as a result of an uproar of economic order for which Smith was involved in several lawsuits for improper enrichment such as the creation of an illegal bank.
Joseph gathered the rest of his faithful in a settlement called Far West, in Missouri, where the hostility to the old colonists reached the point of violent conflict. By 1839 this church was installed on the banks of the Mississippi River, where they founded the city of Nauvoo, a city that grew rapidly by the settlement of new converts brought by the Mormon missionaries.
