There are an infinite number of these whole numbers. Thus the series goes on without bounds. Whatever very big number you can think of there is another one which is 1 greater.
This is expressed as an infinite series due to the fact that it rises at a steady rate with zero inconsistencies. If it wasn't an infinite series then it wouldn't increase at a continuous pattern and would not be infinite.
