Universities prepare you for the job field. When learning you learn why that job or other jobs relating to your major may contain after graduation. Socially it really depends where you live and how you choose to spend your next couple of years. If one chooses to live on campus then they are most likely to get a roommate(s). You are in an environment where you are on living on your own and not with your parents. Roommates are a great way of being with people your major or your own age because after school ends you may have a disicion that might cause you live with roommates and dealing with the budgets.
Universities have many clubs (some academic and others athletic.). Depending on the size of the university there will be a lot of students on and off of campus. A great way to meet some students is through a club that you might and enjoy and other students will enjoy to. If there is no club that you want you can always create your own club.
The best way that universities prepare you for the real world is it preps you for the work force, shows you time management, and how to budget as well. You are also most likely will be paying of thousand of dollars in loans. The loans showing you what credit is and buying and paying for other stuff. Also universities will also give you your life long friends and showing you what roommates what will be like.
