One argument valid for trying to persuade your teacher not to give you homework  while at the same time using Ethos could be: "When I am doing my homework, I make use of the Internet as well as other kind of resources. That means that I cannot state that this homework is my own".

Ethos is a persuasional tool that appeals to the ethics and its aim is to convince your audience that you are trustworthy and clever enough. In this sentence ethos is present by a personal experience. Another way of using ethos would be resorting to expert support such as researchs and opinions from experts in the field.

Ethos is a rhetorical appeal that appeals to the credibility of people to boost their claims. In trying to persuade my teacher not to give me homework, I will say this, taking ethos into consideration;

  • Mrs. Bryan, I do not want to be given homework on algebra. I am a very smart student who scored 100% during the classwork. This shows that I have a good mastery of the subject already. I no longer need to do an assignment.

Ethos is a literary appeal that focuses on a person's credibility. It is believed that people will believe you when your sources are authorities on the subject.

The student applies ethos in the above case, by citing the fact that he is an authority in the subject.

Therefore, there is no need to test him further on his understanding of the subject. In this way, he applies ethos.
