Number one on my list would be clean water, water that you obtain from household pipes without any further need to treat it. Country people face this problem as well, but it is far more acute in the cities, especially really large ones. It is estimated that 600,000,000 live in areas where water is not pure enough to drink.

Getting rid of bodily wastes is another huge problem. Eventually this will effect the health of the a community that lives in this kind of poverty.

Disease is another major problem. All sorts of diseases (tuberculosis, chronic fevers, diarrhea, and other child related diseases) can occur -- most of them fatal.

Even simple precautions like washing one's hands is a major defense that may not be available to those living in poverty.

We are to describe some of the sanitation problems that existed in many major cities.

  • Sanitation is the hygienic disposal and recycling of waste. Wastes comes in the form of solid, liquid and gaseous waste. The proper disposal and recycling of this waste in order not to cause harm to health of people is very important.

Some sanitation problem that exists in cities are:

  • Air pollution: Air pollution is caused majorly by the emission if carbon monoxide (CO) from the machines used in industries. Excess inhaling of CO causes lung and heart disease.

  • Blockage of drainage: The drainages in the cities are blocked often which causes stagnant water. Stagnant water breeds mosquitoes which causes malaria.

  • Congestion: Cities are usually congested with lots of people. So many people live in a small land area which makes the area to be congested.
