Herpes is a sexually transmitted infection caused by the Herpes simplex virus (HSV) and it has no cure.
Sexually transmitted infections, STIs are infections which are spread predominantly by sexual contact.
STIs can be caused by either fungi, bacteria, viruses as well as other parasites. Some STIs are curable with treatment while some others are not.
Some of the curable STIs are those caused by pathogens such as some fungi and bacteria. These include:
- syphilis,
- gonorrhoea,
- chlamydia and
- trichomoniasis.
The STIs which are caused by viruses and that are currently incurable include:
- hepatitis B,
- herpes simplex virus (HSV or herpes),
- HIV and
- human papillomavirus (HPV).
