Why were the discoveries of astronomers like Galileo seen as radical and a threat to Church authority? What was the new idea that they proposed?

I wont give you the whole answer, but the discoveries were seen as a threat because they went against the teachings of the church. They proposed that the earth revovled around the sun instead of the sun and everything else revolving around the Earth. Hope this got you off on the right foot.
