In Elie Wiesel's Night, before the Jews of Sighet are deported to concentration camps, they are forced to move into a ghetto that the Germans have built. Why do some of the Jews think the move will be an improvement? They have heard rumors that they will later be moved from the ghetto to a new colony in Palestine. The ghetto will be administered by a Jewish council and police. Most of them are unworldly people who do not understand what a ghetto is. Their previous experience of ghettos, while unpleasant, has not been fatal.

Respuesta :

Why do some of the Jews think the move will be an improvement?

The correct answer is, “The ghetto will be administered by a Jewish council and police”.

  • Some of the Jews think that their move will be an improvement because this guetto has its own council or Judenrat. A Judenrat was a Jewish-German-collaborative administrative agency imposed by Germans and was composed by Jewish. This was what made them think that it was an improvement, they thought they were never going to see again hostile faces, those “hate-laden stares…” Apart from this, Jewish thought this was the last place they were going to stay until the end of the war, until the arrival of the Red Army. However, in May 1944, the Judenrat said that the ghettos were going to be closed and the Jewish would have to move to and unknown destination.
