what is annual ring in woody stem ?

Annual ring is nothing but as a growth ring, visible in the form of  Concentric circles  in cross-sections of woody stems or trunks.

This ring are the result of cell division of the cambium layer of the woody stem.

It produces a large and thin-walled vessel during spring where as smaller and thick-walled vessel during summer which is a contrasting character of this ring.

It is used to determine the tree's age, and the thickness of the ring indicate the environmental condition during the life of tree.
