Some people believe that of the European nations were getting colonies, The United States also should, or it would be left behind other world powers. Some believe that America needed to exercise global influence and power in order to have overseas markets in which It could sell the excess commodities it produced at home. Others believe that was America's moral and religious duty to "civilizer'' uplift weaker nations.
