Answer:
For the past four years, the whole world has been suffering from a rise in temperatures. This upcoming serious problem is known as Global Warming, Climate Change. These past four years have been the hottest known years by far. Not only is Climate Change affecting friends, family, and loved ones, it affects wildlife as well. Sea creatures and all known wildlife are dying, becoming extinct and lowering in numbers, due to the overheating of the ocean. They are losing there only place to live.
So who or what is the cause of these catastrophic changes? It is our own actions. Our need for replaceable things like plastic is the cause. This plastic ruins our air and is being dumped into the ocean, killing all ocean life. We go to industries asking for harmful things that hurt and change our earth, takes hundreds of years to break down, and puts harmful chemicals into out air. People ask for everyday things like plastic straws, plastic cups and plastic bags, when we can easily replace these things with more eco-friendly things. We can instead use glass cups, cloth bags or metal straws.
In an article on scientific research on global warming they found that the statistics show that for every three tons of fish in the ocean there is one ton of plastic in the ocean. With this amount of littering many foods we eat could go extinct. If we put one ton of plastic for every three tons of fish in the ocean that means that at least one ton of fish will die. The ecosystems will be thrown of balance, the food chains will be corrupted and the ocean places a massive role in humans and animals life.
During these current days around 4-8% of annual oil consumption is associated with the production of plastics. A statistical research estimated that by 2050 if we continue this reliance on plastic, plastics will account for 20% of oil consumption. Oil, gas, and coal are the fossil-fuel building blocks of plastics. Natural gas and oil can be extracted from the earth through fracking. Companies drill wells into the ground until they hit a rock layer, then they turn 90 degrees and drill horizontally. Injecting sand, chemicals, or water breaks up the rock to release gas and oil, which are transported to other facilities via pipelines, trains, and trucks. Extraction and transportation of these fossil fuels is a carbon-intensive activity. Statistical researchers estimated that 12.5 to 13.5 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent are emitted per year while extracting and transporting natural gas to create feedstocks for plastics in the United States.
If we continue using these harmful substances, the sea will continue to die, the planet will continue to get hotter and hotter because of these chemicals we put into the air, while trying to make plastic, and humanity will cease to exist. If we destroy this planet, how will humanity continue its existence? There is not where to flee to once we destroy this planet, since earth is the only habitable planet in our galaxy. Even if there was another planet, we will never learn from our mistakes, we will destroy the next planet. We need to start now, limit your use of plastic, because we are destroying our only home.
