The power of the catholic church is represented in this picture because of their ability to afford such a huge cathedral. (To continue into further depth, the Catholic church liked to show off their power by buying expensive/huge things to make them seem like an all-powerful religion, and to get as many people as possible to switch to Catholicism.)
