The Lionfish invasion has highlights the complexity of managing the introduced species in the marine environment. The Lionfish is ranked as one of the other aquatic invasive species that which have taken up permanent residence in U.S. waters, such as European green crabs, snakeheads, and zebra mussels. However, the Guardian robot patrols the Atlantic Ocean sucks up invasive lionfish like a vacuum. The Guardian robot is a tethered robot which is made up of eight thrusters with the advantages to undertake several complex manoeuvres and very stable in undersea currents. It has two rods at the front of the device designed to administer a low, controlled voltage which temporarily stuns the fish as jets of water suck the prey into a holding tube. Once the fish are collected from the tube the lionfish may be culled and used as delicious food.
