This plateau is home to several mountain ranges, including the Zagros, the Elburz, and the Hindu Kush. In addition, two of the harshest deserts in the world are found here: the Dasht-e Lut and the Dasht-e Kavir. The Kavir is also called the “Great Salt Desert” because it is covered with a salty crust. The Lut is one of the hottest deserts in the world.
