in 75 words, discuss how the popularity of such works as benjamin franklins poor richards almanach and the way to wealth represented a major transformation in values and way of life in 18th century America.

Respuesta :

Benjamin Franklin's "The Way To Wealth" signifies the change from the "puritan plain" writing style to the "protestant work ethic" style. In fact, it wasn't just the writing style that changed, it was American values, traditions, nationalism, and culture that changed during this time as well. The popularity of The Way To Wealth showed that more and more Americans were concerned with higher levels of intellectual knowledge, than they did for futile religious dogma and rhetoric. Furthermore, Americans weren't so in love with being a colony of the British Empire, so this area in time also represented a gradual change in the American value of British nationalism, to American nationalism. Therefore, besides the fact that Americans were switching from the puritan faith to the protestant doctrine, they were also beginning to change their values in regards to education and British nationalism. The reason being, they no longer wanted education for the rich, but they wanted it for everyone and they weren't fond of being taxed like crazy by Great Britain.

Answer:

The popularity of works such as Benjamin Franklin's Poor Richard's Almanac and "The Way to Wealth" both represented a major transformation in the values and way of life in 18th century America. Both of these works represented the beginning of an immense change in the style of American literature as compared to the simple and direct Puritan style of writing prior to the introduction of these works. This newer style of writing, established by Benjamin Franklin and other prominent authors, was more complex and lacked the religious dogma and indoctrination tactics that were featured with the Puritans' works of writing. As such, the new literature also showed that the American people were craving more complicated writing that required more critical thinking rather than simply being told what to believe and how to practice their religion. Furthermore, Americans during this time were beginning to realize that Great Britain was not treating them particularly kindly now that they had to do more thinking even while reading.
