Hay-Bunau-Varilla Treaty
a treaty signed on November 18, 1903, by the United States and Panama, which established the Panama Canal Zone and the subsequent construction of the Panama Canal. Panama granted the U.S. access to the land on which they could construct the canal. U.S. had control over the canal for 99 years, $10 million & 250,000 yearly
