The Tale of Genji provides a glimpse of life because it tells about the place of the women in the society, to be more specific, in politics during the VIII century until the X century in Japan. In this periods, women were excluded from politics by men and they only let women observe but not to propose or investigate in this subject.

However, women influenced in the decisions made by the men because they were their wifes, lovers and partners when men weren´t at Heian court. This tale shows a vision of how relegated from several matters in the society, like politcs in this case, was the woman and nowadays women are still fighting for their place when it comes to make hard decisions in any aspect of life, from matters at home until matters that affect a whole country.
