Jesus actually spoke Aramaic, not Hebrew. He was a rabbi and may have understood Hebrew as a liturgical language (since Hebrew was used in the temples), but in his day-to-day life he spoke Aramaic. We know this because all four Gospel writers (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John), who wrote their gospels in Greek because Greek was very widely understood, sometimes switched from Greek to Aramaic to quote Jesus.s
