Shakespeare lived in the Elizabethan time period. During this time period, women wore long-sleeve dresses. These dresses covered their bodies entirely. They had big cuffs, and huge collars on these dresses. Men, on the other hand, wore long socks, and pants. They also had huge collars. Women tended to wear a lot of jewelry. Their jewelry was mainly necklaces. Women rarely showed skin other than their faces. So, you would not see any short dresses as you do now.
