According to Buddha's teachings, the source of all suffering in this life is the desire or attachment to material goods. According to Buddha, this life is merely an illusion, so developing attachment for illusory things is just self-deceiving and the related suffering , too. As a matter of fact, the main goal of buddhism is to learn how to severe ties with everything in this material world, including family and friend relationships and any kinds of cravings for food, drinks, clothes, etc. As a person learns to leave all attachments to material things, the reincarnation cycle is broken for good a new state of conscience and existence is achieved: nirvana.
