The Tallmadge Amendment an antislavery amendment was proposed by Rep. James Tallmadge of New York which articulated the prohibition of slavery and gradual emancipation of slaves in Missouri. It proposed the emancipation for those who have reached at the age of 25.

It was passed in House of Representatives but was rejected in Senate. So in 821 through Missouri Compromise, Missouri was admitted to the Union as a slave state.
