As we know that the speed of the sound in air is given as
[tex]v = \sqrt{\frac{\gamma RT}{M}}[/tex]
here we know that
[tex]\gamma[/tex] = adiabatic constant of air
M = molecular mass of air
T = absolute temperature
so from above equation we can say that speed of sound directky depends on the temperature of air
Here if we increase the temperature the speed will increase
While if we decrease the temperature the speed will decrease as it is directly depending on the temperature term
So here on cold day the temperature is less so the speed will decrease here
