Ahmed I he ordered it built after the peace of Zsitvatorok to appease the wrath of Allah after the defeats of his army against the Safavid Empire. But its construction generated a great controversy. The money from the municipal coffers was used, so a sector of the city, ''the ulemas'', did not agree.
The muslim ruler that order the construction of a maginificent mosque in Istanbul and decreed a vast new set of laws for his empire was Sultan Ahmed I. He renewd also trade traties with France, England and Venice. Under his rule, the Sultan Ahmed Mosque was built, across from Hagia Sophia.
