Wonderful question! In music terms a flat note Lowers a pitch half a step. The symbol of a flat is “b”. Now here’s how it works: the musical alphabet is A-G. Normal letters are considered naturals. Just like I said before a flat (b) note lowers the pitch by a half step. Now this is the confusing part: there are these things called sharps (#) that raise the note/pitch a half step. And because of sharps and flats there are things called enharmonics where two notes mean the same thing, but written out differently.
For example: G (natural) what is the flat of G?
You go backwards in the alphabet.
So it would be F...F what.
