Caregivers and patients faced precarious conditions during the civil war, as lack of sterilization and lack of large-scale antibiotics. Also warehouses, churches and other buildings were set up to treat the injured. They were disorganized and chaotic, often not large enough or equipped to surgeries. The medical kit also was precarious with scissors, gauze and needles, and amputations were common to save a life.
