PLEASE HELP!

Alex is making a candy that contains 75% white chocolate and the rest peppermint sticks. The candy has 3 pounds of peppermint sticks. Part A: Write an equation using one variable that can be used to find the total number of pounds of white chocolate and peppermint sticks in the candy. Define the variable used in the equation and solve the equation. Hint: 0.75x represents the number of pounds of white chocolate in the candy. (5 points) Part B: How many pounds of white chocolate are present in the candy? Show your work. (5 points)

Respuesta :

White chocolate present = 75% that is 0.75.

The Peppermint sticks present = 25% that is 0.25x.

Therefore,

Part A: Equation to find the number of pounds of white chocolate is

c = 0.75 x ----------(1)

Where x is the total number of pounds of a candy and c is the number of pounds of white chocolate

And equation to find the number of pounds Peppermint sticks is

p = 0.25 x ----------(2)

Where x is the total number of pounds of a candy and p is the  number of pounds Peppermint sticks.

We are given 3 pounds of peppermint sticks.

Plugging p=3 in second equation, we get

3 = 0.25 x

Dividing both sides by 0.25, we get

x= 3/0.25 = 12.

Therefore, total number of pounds of a candy = 12 pounds.

Part B: Plugging x = 12 in first equation c = 0.75 x to find the number of pounds of white chocolate are present in the candy.

c = 0.75 × 12 = 9 pounds.

Therefore, 9 pounds of white chocolate are present in the candy.
